Movie Review for July 2017 - by Michelle Kisner

NYMPHOMANIAC VOL. 1 Female sexuality is one of the most powerful forces in the world. So powerful is its influence, from a young age women are trained to keep it locked safely away and to suppress it. Entire religions are based upon subjugating it and controlling it. In Nymphomaniac, director Lars Von Trier attempts to explore what it means to be a sexual being and whether the emotion of love has any place in it at all. The film revolves around a woman named Joe, self-professed nymphomaniac (played by Von Trier’s muse Charlotte Gainsbourg). She is found badly beaten in an alleyway by a kindly older gentleman who proceeds to take her back to his apartment on her request. She then regales him with tales of her growing up and the experiences she had living a promiscuous life. It’s divided into chapters, much like a book, and each part is a self-contained vignette. This sounds rather straightforward, but the old man periodically interjects with his interpretation of the events and o

Video Game Review - by Ericca M.

Until Dawn      Choice based games are definitely the new flavor of the decade as far as interactive gaming in concerned. There’s nothing cooler than being able to change the story as you go based on the smart or stupid decisions that you make. It makes gaming even more similar to real life.      A perfect example of these kind of games is Until Dawn. Until Dawn is certainly a hidden gem. It was one of those downloadable games that I came across when I was randomly searching through the Playstation Network for a new horror game. I came across the trailer and it looked awesome. I’ve always been a fan of survival games like Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Fatal Frame, etc., so I knew it’d be the perfect fit for my collection.      Until Dawn is an interactive drama survival horror adventure video game developed by Supermassive Games and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation 4. It was originally released worldwide in August 2015 so I was a little late in th

Sex Toy Review (sponsored by SI Novelties) - July 2017 - by TJ Leone

I may have developed a sweet tooth for SI Novelties’ Sweet Treats G-Spot Vibe, part of the BFF Series. Forever a fan of the small but mighty variety of adult novelties, the Ripple piqued my interest at first glance. The adorable ice cream shop inspired packaging is inviting and informative with all of the features clearly listed on the back. The silky smooth silicone in a pleasant shade of pink makes the Ripple as cute as it is comfortable. This finger-sized vibe has a delicate curve at the tip for gentle G-Spot exploration. Firm but flexible, the Ripple is ideal for a beginner or the single digit finger bang fan. The Ripple gets its name from the ripples running across the underbelly of the device, almost like knuckles, giving a gentle wave to the overall shape. Normally, I’m not a fan of textured toys but these features were well designed and felt lovely externally as well as internally. Taking just a single AAA battery this Sweet Treat was shockingly strong. With 10 diff

Pleasure Talk With Amber - July 2017 - by Amber Jones

Sex, Penis, Foreplay, Vagina! Uncomfortable yet? You may not be, but believe me there are plenty of people out there who cringe when hearing words like these! In a time where sex seems to be everywhere, the topic is notably still the elephant in the room. Platinum Pleasures and Pleasure Talk with Amber are here to break down those barriers and address the taboos, and myths associated with sex, relationships, and bedroom accessories. Growing up I was raised in a household where the topic of sex and prevention was introduced to me at the age of 12. I never understood the discomfort in a room full of individuals when words like condoms, gay, pussy, or even STD’s were mentioned. I had several friends who became teenage mothers while we were still in high school, I watched my brother battle accepting his homosexuality and even contemplating suicide because of what society might think. I have had conversations with women who have admitted to having sex and not actually knowing

Our Erotic Past - by TJ Leone

New Orleans 1721, there were fewer than 700 men settled in the whole colony of Louisiana, a number which excludes men held in slavery. The French government sent 80 women to the colony by ship, in the hopes that Louisiana’s free men would marry these women and would refrain from having sex with Native American women. Many of the migrant women, however, had been serving time for prostitution charges in French prisons, and upon arriving in the colony found the sex trade provided them more independence than any arranged marriage to settlers. Lulu White Tales about New Orleans Storyville red-light district in the early 1900s would be incomplete without a mention of the prostitute, brothel madame, and entrepreneur Lulu White. White ran a brothel, the Octoroon Parlour, that housed nearly 40 women. The brothel was a hub for jazz lovers and gentlemen looking to explore the five parlors and 15 bedrooms reserved for special guests. White was forced to close her establishment in 1

Baseball, Hot Dogs, Apple Pie & Vanilla Sex - by Starla Knight

It’s July! The month we, as Americans, celebrate our independence.  The month in which we decorate everything in stripes and stars and reflect upon our American traditions and values.  Somehow over the centuries we’ve reduced our history of revolt and hard-fought independence to summer vacations, trips to the lake, and camping.  (Hey, I’m not complaining, bring those things on!) But we’ve got to this glorious state of forgetful bliss by the hard work and sacrifices of the generations preceding us. So, thank you, immigrants (voluntary and involuntary) from the past, who fought to get us here and fought to provide the American dream. With all things being red, white and blue this month, what’s more American than baseball, hotdogs, apple pie and vanilla sex? Vanilla sex?! I know, I know, all you freak flag flyin’ folk are going to want to argue that your way is just as American, if not more so than vanilla, because you’re breaking the establishment rules and exercising your

Fact or FRICTION - July 2017

Image
Red, White, & Blew It was a hot July evening in rural Michigan. The crickets were chirping, frogs croaking in the distance, the smell of fresh air and campfire danced around us. I met Thomas earlier that week at a mutual friend’s cabin. He was home on leave from the Army. We quickly hit it off and became inseparable. That particular night we found the perfect secluded area to watch fireworks at the lake. He laid down an old quilt in the thick grass for us to get cozy. The sun had set and the air started to cool off.Thomas pulled me closer. I got lost in the smell of his skin. The sound of fireworks jolted me back from my daydream. Thomas passed me a perfectly rolled joint and everything melted away after that first puff. The fireworks started to pick up and I climbed on Thomas’ lap. We kissed wildly, deep, passionate, and playful. He tasted like sweet tea and weed. I wanted more. I took off his shirt and he put his strong hands up mine, fondling my breasts as I kissed his
