Tanzanian Leader ‘Cracks Down’ on Homosexuality OCTOBER 30-- Regional Commissioner Paul Makonda, leader of Dar es Salaam, the most populated city in Tanzania, is ordering mass arrests of homosexuals living in the region. On October 30th, Makonda said that he’s ordered a surveillance squad to monitor gay and lesbian people in the city, which has a population of more than 4 million citizens. The 17-member squad will use social media as a means to identify and arrest gay, lesbian or transgender people, according to Reuters.
